Coastguard officers and Port Erin's lifeboat crew were called out yesterday after two animals fell off a cliff.
The incident happened just before 9am when a dog and a sheep fell from a remote section of coast near the Sloc.
Officers climbed down the cliff and managed to rescue the sheep, but the dog died from its injuries.
The coastguard says the dog's owner did the right thing by dialling 999 rather than try to rescue their pet themselves.
