Director defends Next rejection decision

The man head of the body responsible for rejecting Next’s application to open a superstore on the outskirts of Douglas has spoken to 3FM.

Michael Gallagher is director of Planning and Building Control at the Department of Infrastructure.

Last week his organisation refused to allow the retailer to open a new site at the Spring Valley Industrial Estate.

This is the same site where over recent weeks the likes of Pets at Home and, subject to approval, Currys/PC World will soon open its doors.

Speaking to us earlier, Mr Gallagher outlined the reasons for his decision (see audio).

However, it was also revealed that the government's current economic strategy is under review and there could be further developments with regards to this issue in the near future.
