Department of Infrastructure incur £2m budget cut

The Department of Infrastructure have said maintaining the Island's critical infrastructure and strategic assets on a reduced budget will be the key challenge in light of a £2m budget reduction.

In real terms the latest budget is a reduction of 5% on last year.

Nearly a quarter of this hole will be plugged through the elimination of vacant posts with a further £355,000 cut coming from reductions in overtime and additional staff payments.

Lower passenger figures through the Airport have significantly impacted income over the past two years, with this in mind the Airport have had their budget frozen.

Two capital schemes have been prioritised with improvements expected to be made to Douglas Promenade and Peel Road over the next two years.
