Their efforts will tie in with Cervical Cancer Prevention Awareness week, which is a major campaign taking place throughout Europe from yesterday until next Saturday.
They’re using the week as an opportunity to highlight the importance that prevention plays in reducing the number of deaths caused by cervical cancer, they will also be providing information so that the public can make an informed choice on both vaccination and screening.
As it stands currently only 70% of girls aged between 12 and 18 years have completed the HPV vaccinations, and 80% of women above that age – the Department wish to stress that everyone should make use of the vaccine.
Further information is available from the Department of Health website and from the Public Health Directorate.
