Delivery driver fined after blocking road

A delivery driver has been fined £450 for blocking a lane because the loading bay he wanted to use was full.

55-year-old Anthony Hinchcliffe admitted a charge of unnecessary obstruction via Coroner's Admission at Douglas Courthouse last week.

The court heard how the Douglas man was stopped by a police officer in Villiers Lane at 10.40am on May 5th - his goods vehicle was obstructing three cars from entering Victoria Street.

The officer asked him to move his vehicle and noticed he also had a defective tyre - an offence which Hinchcliffe admitted saying there was no excuse for leaving the depot without checking.

He said in hindsight he should have gone around the block again when he saw the loading bay was full but was "only doing his job".

Hinchcliffe was fined £100 for causing an obstruction and £300 for having a defective tyre - he was also given three penalty points and ordered to pay £50 in costs.
