Manx Utilities has announced the diesel generators at Ramsey Power Station are to be decommissioned.
The generators - which are 50 years old - haven't been operated in recent years.
It comes following a third-party analysis of the high voltage electricity network in Ramsey and the north of the Island.
The exhaust stacks will be dismantled early this year, with the engines and fuel storage tanks to be removed thereafter.
