DEC confirms no change to pre-school policy

Health Minister David Anderson is temporary head of education

The Department of Education and Children is reiterating that there will be no change in policy to the cut to pre-school provisions.

The sacking of former minister Peter Karran on Wednesday has sparked speculation that there could be a change in the government’s decision to cut funding to pre-school nurseries.

However, the department has confirmed this will not be the case.

Chief Minister Allan Bell said the decision had been made, the new process is under way and the budgetary provision is in place and continuing as before.

New providers are in place for the majority of the existing pre-schools, with initial two-year agreements and the majority of DEC staff affected have been redeployed to other posts.
