The Office of Fair Trading is urging people to get a grip on their finances as the new year starts.
The debt management team is always busy throughout January offering advice to people who overspend during the festive season.
People who are struggling have been advised to start planning their next Christmas now to ensure they're not left with a mountain of debt to pay off this time next year.
