Date Set For Crunch Reciprocal Health Meeting

Date Set For Crunch Reciprocal Health Meeting

A date has been set for the crunch meeting between the UK’s Secretary of State for Health, and DHSS Minister Eddie Teare to discuss the reciprocal health agreement.

The meeting was requested by Minister Teare following the public outcry in response to the UK’s decision to bring an end to the existing Reciprocal Health Agreement which saw Island residents covered if they were to fall ill in the UK.

People working for the UK Government also urged the Minister to seek a meeting as they were concerned that the decision would be equally detrimental to both parties.

The meeting will take place on January 19th.

Although agreeing to the meeting the UK Health Secretary Andy Burnham has stated publicly that they are unlikely to change their position.

Also in attendance will be the Chief Minister Tony Brown.

As it stands the agreement will end on March 31st, 2010.
