Holiday Makers Urged to Be Wary When Buying Goods Abroad
The Manx Public are being urged not to buy imported or fake designer goods while on holiday, as there is a high chance you are funding crime.
The call has come from the Isle of Man’s Customs office.
As holiday season gets underway a few timely reminders have been issued to the Manx Public to ensure they don’t get stung when buying goods abroad.
Most notable of all the items to watch out for is fake designer goods, with proceeds likely to fund illegal enterprises and the items themselves are also likely to be of very poor quality.
Also when buying tax free goods you are reminded that upto a 45% import tax could be applied upon arrival back on the Island, that applies especially to cheap clothing bought in America.
There is also no allowance for tobacco products sent through the post from the EU.
For more information about restricted and prohibited items you can contact the Customs and Excise Division on 648100.
