Crogga has requested to vary its licence before it drills for gas in Manx waters.
According to the infrastructure minister, the company wants to 'vary the timing of the various activities.'
Crogga had previously said it hopes to start drilling off Maughold next year, with production starting in 2026.
MHK Joney Faragher asked the minister how such variation would 'impact environmental standards and operational vigour.'
Mr Thomas says the department will seek appropriate advice in considering Crogga's request.
