Douglas council says it will spend £671,000 replacing one of the cremators at the city's crematorium.
One of the two machines at the site has broken down and is so old it was difficult to repair.
Councillors say although they want to replace it with greener electric equipment, it's not possible to do so yet.
They voted to spend the money on a new gas cremator.
