Manx National Heritage has applied for planning permission to modify Castle Rushen's former courtroom.
The organisation is applying for registered building consent to make changes in the witness room and courtroom in order to install a lift.
In its application, it says it needs to do the work to make the area on the first floor accessible.
The room was last used by the Island's courts in 2013, but still hosts the investiture ceremony for new Lieutenant governors.
