Court for man caught with 0.5 grams of cannabis

22-year-old Daniel Woodbridge appeared at Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to having the Class C drug in his possession. 

 

He was stopped on Marine Drive at around 12.05am on July 19th by police who were patrolling the area - they noted a strong smell of cannabis and searched the vehicle he was in. 

 

Woodbridge admitted to officers he had a grinder and cannabis bush on him which was later deemed to have a street value of around £10. 

 

The prosecutor told the court it was evident it was for his personal use but the case had come to court because it wasn't his "first involvement" with drugs. 

 

Woodbridge's advocate told the court it was a "very small amount" but admitted he'd been cautioned for a similar offence in the "not too distant past". 

 

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes gave him credit for his guilty plea and cooperation with the police but noted his caution had been issued just two months previously in June. 

 

She handed him a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay costs of £125.
