Court backs Attorney General in Summerland inquests case

A court says there's no reason to overturn the Attorney General's decision not to hold new inquests into those who lost their lives in the Summerland fire.

Campaigners had appealed against the decision, and took their case to the High Court.

However, earlier today, the claim was dismissed - with a ruling the Attorney General acted lawfully and reached a rational decision.

In a statement after the judgement was handed down, Attorney General Walter Wannenburgh expressed his sympathy to those who lost loved ones in the 1973 disaster, as well as survivors and families involved.
