Fire Crews Deal With Underground Fire
A couple in a house in Princess Street had a lucky escape after waking to find their lounge smoke logged.
Upon arrival Fire Crews were able to use their thermal image camera to trace the origin of the smoke to the floor joists and floor boards, which were smouldering in the lounge.
The crews then had to cut into the floor to extinguish all of the fire and remove the burning material.
The cause of the fire was due to a faulty hearth which had cracked with hot embers from their coal fire falling through a crack setting fire to the joist.
Householders are again reminded to ensure they have functioning fire alarms.
