Councillor Views Douglas Regeneration Scheme as Major Priority
Following on from his budget speech a few weeks back, Douglas Councillor David Christian has said work must begin in the next year to give Douglas a much needed face lift.
The bulk of the work would be concentrated on the main shopping high street, an area which has been hit hard by the recession with numerous shops going out of business and many remaining empty and boarded up ever since.
Councillor Christian said for it to be effective the entire street would have been to be refurbished, with new lighting and walk ways and a re-designed town centre.
Although there would be some serious cost implications with such a project Councillor Christian said it would be a case of making it affordable.
He says the town looks sad and tired and improving the look is a priority. (audio above)
