A £25 million pound development on Lord Street will rid the Island’s capital of a ‘grot spot’ according to Douglas Council Leader David Christian.
The planning committee recommended the scheme be approved this week (February 11).
The project, titled ‘Quayside North’, includes a seven-screen ‘omniplex’ cinema, a 200 space car park, a hotel, apartments, shops and restaurants.
Douglas Council had raised concerns with developer Kane Limited over access to the proposed site coming via chapel row.
This has since been moved to North Quay, a comprise which Mr Christian believes demonstrates the developer’s willingness to listen.
It’s also understood discussions are being held over whether the Council should take responsibility for managing the car park.
