Douglas Borough Council is trialing new vehicles aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
The authority is partnering with Manx Gas to test run a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle for the next three months which will also be available to loan out to other organisations.
The council's Environmental Services Committee Chairman, Ritchie McNicholl, says they'll be looking at the financial and environmental benefits of the trial.
He adds those findings could give them more information on whether CNG is a viable alternative fuel to power the council's fleet of vehicles in the future.
