Douglas Borough Council says it will be pressing ahead with an initiative to build 66 apartments on the site of the former Athol Garage on Peel Road after it was approved by planners this week.
The authority's Housing Committee Chairman, Claire Wells, says it will allow the council to provide 'good quality social housing in the heart of the capital'.
The £12.6million development - which would be a mix of one and two-bedroom flats - is expected to be finished by 2022.
