A campaigner says efforts to have a local authority's contractors pay a living wage is 'racist'.
Michael Josem of the Manx Taxpayer's Alliance was responding to Douglas Council's announcement it would take into account how much workers are paid when it awards contracts in future.
On Facebook, he said the living wage policy has a racist past because it was used to prevent minorities getting jobs.
Councillor Devon Watson, who represents the East Ward, says he's astounded by the claim.
