Repurposing Moore's Smokehouse as a museum would require a 'substantial investment of public funds.'
That's according to the Enterprise Minister following a written question by MHK John Wannenburgh.
He asked if consideration will be given to acquiring the building and establishing a working museum as part of the Island's tourism offering.
This would need a lot of money to acquire, adapt, staff, operate and maintain.
It's added that Manx National Heritage already tell the story of Manx kippers and the smokehouse industry at the nearby House of Manannan.
However, it's understood the building is on the Protected Buildings Register.
