A government committee has voiced its concern with the proposal to temporarily suspend work permits.
The Economic Policy Review Committee, which is made up of MHKs Claire Christian, John Wannenburgh and Jason Moorhouse, has issued a release.
It says the Department for Enterprise's proposal could have potential long term implications for the Island and the labour market.
The committee adds that a suspension of work permits could lead to an influx on non-local workers, potentially leading to an imbalance in the job market and put strain on already overwhelmed public services.
It's calling for the proposal to be carefully analysed and for thorough examination to take place before any decisions are made.
Tynwald members will discuss the issue at next month's sitting.
