The Island's information commissioner has backed Garff Commissioners after the local authority refused to hand over specific details about staff salaries.
A Freedom of Information request to the board asked for the salaries paid to two clerks - the board refused to supply the data but after an appeal handed over salary bands and the total cost of staff.
But the person behind the request asked for a review by the Island's Information Commissioner Dr Alexandra Delaney-Bhattacharya.
She said although exact salary figures are personal data, and so can be withheld, the authority had done the right thing by releasing the salary bands involved.
