Cutbacks and job losses will generate money for a civil service pay increase - it will not come from Treasury.
That’s the message from the Chief Minister who has commented on the spat between Unite the Union and the chairman of the Civil Service, Alf Cannan.
Unite's regional officer Eric Holmes feels Mr Cannan has treated the Whitley Council workers unfairly by keeping their pay frozen while the civil service will receive a two per cent rise.
