Nine children in care have missed more than a month's worth of school, according to the Island's education department.
Minister Graham Cregeen was quizzed on the issue by Douglas North MHK David Ashford in a tynwald question for written answer.
In his response, Mr Cregeen says 12 children currently in care have school attendence rates below 80 per cent.
He says 9 of the 12 children have missed more than 30 days in the last year.
