The Chief Minister has been answering allegations that employment opportunities in the civil service are getting priority over nursing and teaching professions.
The Chief Minister quickly dismissed the accusation put forward by Onchan MHK Peter Karran in todays sitting of the House of Keys, with him saying it was clearly not the case.
He said the reduction in Government spending has affected all areas of service provision with employment costs being a large proportion of the expenditure.
In some cases job vacancies have not been refilled, with some posts being abolished all together, this has led to significant savings to Government.
However the Chief Minister said this is the case across the board and Government have no policy to reduce the employment opportunities specifically in the nursing and teaching professions in favour of creating permanent positions in civil service.
