The Island's Chief Minister has paid tribute to the people of France following a devastating fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral.
The blaze at the famous 12th century building, thought to have been started by accident, took at least 14 hours to bring under control.
On Twitter Howard Quayle said his thoughts are with the people of France, and an injured firefighter.
He added the cathedral is an icon of both the French nation, and of Europe - one he was lucky enough to have visited years ago.
My thoughts are with the people of #France and the injured firefighter following the terrible fire at #NotreDame - an icon of the French nation and of #Europe. I was lucky enough to visit years ago and enjoyed listening to the tremendous 8,000 pipe organ - the king of instruments
