Chief Minister comments on Steam Train price tag

There's been public outcry following the request from the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure to spend big on a replacement diesel train for the Steam Railway.

In total the engine would cost £750,000 with the money coming from the capital fund.

This has caused confusion and derision among the public in light of major education cuts and front line service scale backs.

However Chief Minister Allan Bell is keen to impress that its still subject to Tynwald approval, and if passed it would only impact the budget a small amount each year as the sum would be repaid over 10 or 20 years.

The request will be taken before Tynwald in their July sitting.
