Chief Minister calls for Equality Bill urgency

Allan Bell’s comments came in today’s sitting but he stressed this was not a knee-jerk reaction to recent events.

He said the Cabinet had requested in November 2011 for a bill to be drafted that protected people against discrimination in employment and providing goods and services.

Mr Bell admitted progress on the bill had been slow but was hoping the proposed legislation could go out to public consultation soon.

The Chief Minister added it was clearly distressing and wrong that certain members of the community feel Manx law does not protect them.
