A "mean-spirited offence" involving a stolen cheque book has landed a Ramsey man a suspended jail sentence and a £675 fine.
He pleaded guilty to stealing a chequebook from a communal area in his building, forging a cheque for £400 and cashing it in his own bank account.
He also pleaded guilty to five driving charges after being stopped in Kirk Michael in June by police who found he had no driving licence or insurance.
Defending him his advocate said he had a very difficult background but admitted the driving offences were a "foolish mistake" and stealing the cheque was "impulsive".
Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes gave him an eight week custodial sentence suspended for two years and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
