Chamber of Commerce Want Inquiry Into Proposed Tesco Expansion
A request for support has gone out from the Island’s chamber of commerce in light of the plans
for a major expansion at Tesco.
Following a public consultation it has become clear that large numbers of the Manx community would oppose such an expansion due to the detrimental affects it would have on small businesses around the Island.
The plans would see Tesco become one of the mega-stores seen in the UK, notorious for selling everything under one roof at highly competitive prices.
The chamber wants an in-depth inquiry to be carried out into the damage such a store could have to retailers across the Island, also if it would hamper the Government’s long awaited regeneration scheme.
