The Island's Policy and Reform Minister says keeping track of unoccupied properties on Island outside of the census is a challenge.
The comments from Chris Thomas MHK comes after the Cabinet Office published figures on the matter last week.
The latest statistics on vacancy rates are from the census in 2016 - with Mr Thomas adding he hopes the details available will provide more clarity on the subject.
The report from the Economic Affairs Division revealed vacancy rates across the Isle of Man increased in every local authority except Bride between 2001 and 2016.
