Castletown Commissioners have welcomed the approval of plans to build 96 new homes in a field opposite Janet’s Corner.
The bid by Haven Homes was supported by the planning committee on Monday (2 March), and includes the creation of a new junction off Victoria Road.
The new properties will be a mix of terraced, semi-detached, and detached, with twenty-four of them classed as affordable homes.
After talks with commissioners, the developer has agreed to pay £25,000 to the town for improvements within Poulsom Park.
It comes after the two parties discussed pedestrian access and drainage across the popular recreational site, which will be close to the new development.
A spokesperson for the local authority says ‘successive boards have highlighted need for more high quality housing in the town’.
Commissioners are also hopeful that new homes will be delivered on the sites identified in the Castletown Housing Land Review.
