Samuel William Gordon of Central Promenade appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The 20-year-old admitted taking a vehicle without consent, drink-driving, and having no licence or insurance on October 23.
Prosecutor Hazel Caroon told the hearing Gordon stole the Hyundai Tucson from outside the Mannin Hotel in Douglas at around 6am when its driver left it unattended to collect passengers.
Police found him parked up on the promenade a short distance away, and after he was arrested he turned out to be more than two and a half times over the legal limit.
Mrs Hughes adjourned the case for pre-sentencing reports, and Gordon was bailed to appear in court again on December 21.
