The inquest into the death of an elderly woman who died after falling and hitting her head in a residential home has concluded her death was accidental.
96-year-old Joyce Jones was a resident at Grove Mount Residential Home in Ramsey on September 11th when she was found by the care home manager on the floor in the lounge area.
Another resident had raised the alarm after watching the former nurse stand up and walk across the room, aided by her zimmer frame, towards the TV before falling and banging her head.
An ambulance was called and Mrs Jones was taken to Noble's Hospital - she was admitted but died in the early hours of the next day; her cause of death was recorded as a bleed on the brain.
At Douglas Courthouse yesterday Coroner of Inquests John Needham opened the inquest into her death.
A statement from Mrs Jones' daughter described her as a 'well-loved and respected member of the community' saying her mother would 'leave behind a big gap' in many people's lives.
Recording a verdict of accidental death the coroner said it was clear she'd 'lost her balance' and there was no evidence of third party involvement.
He released her body so that funeral arrangements can take place and formally closed the inquest.
