Cheap Booze In Supermarkets Killing Pub Trade
Martin Brunnschweiler from Bushy’s Brewery has said the Island’s pub scene is at the worst state he’s ever seen it.
Martin attributes the major decline to the cheap booze on offer in the supermarkets, which is killing trade in the pubs, and also leading to increased levels of binge drinking.
Yesterday it was announced that a restriction on the cheap booze would be introduced in the England and Wales to try and combat the problem and reduce crime.
No such initiative has been introduced on the Island.
Currently booze is being sold as a loss leader in the supermarkets, meaning in some instances it’s cheaper than bottled water.
Martin says for the pub trade to pick up on the Island desperate measures need to be introduced, and quickly.
