Bus drivers' employment details revealed

Some finer details regarding the employment of the Island’s bus drivers have been revealed in Tynwald today.

DCCL Minister Tim Crookall said there had been no redundancies in the past two years and therefore no costs had occurred through early pay-offs.

Mr Crookall was answering a series of questions from Douglas South’s Brenda Cannell.

However, he did say that around 15 posts become available each year, which is consistent with the recent uptake of 35 new driving staff in the past two years.

Of these, nine are full-time and five part-time with 21 casual employees.

Mr Crookall said all of these 35 positions were filled by Isle of Man workers.

He was unable to answer Mrs Cannell’s question asking what other forms of employment all non-permanent staff also have, as they don’t have to declare this to the department.

However, Mr Crookall did reveal that 14 casual drivers have permanent positions working in pubic transport and four have roles elsewhere in government.
