Bus drivers could strike next week

Bus drivers are threatening strike action for Tynwald Day and Wednesday.

Bus drivers are threatening strike action for next week.

Following months of negotiations with the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure the union that represents a large number of bus drivers has announced that Bus Vannin will take Industrial Action on Tynwald Day and the day after. (Wednesday 6th July).

Minister David Cretney says he's hopeful an agreement can be reached and a dispute resolved before next week but there is a strong possibility of strike action.

Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said; 'We are flagging up the possibility now so people who have important journeys to make – such as trips to the airport, to hospital, to work and of course to Tynwald Day – can be aware of the likely need to make alternative arrangements.'

Despite the possibility of no buses running, schools will be open on Wednesday as usual.
