The Environment, Food & Agriculture Minister says the workload surrounding Brexit has affected progress on new animal welfare legislation.
Geoffrey Boot MHK made the comments as part of a written response to a question regarding a proposed new Animal Welfare Bill in the House of Keys earlier this week.
He added Brexit is the current priority, but looks forward to introducing a new bill to 'safeguard the welfare of companion animals on the Island that we can all be proud of'.
His statement was in reply to a query on the subject from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper.
