Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney has branded the significant investment in the new look Bowl Stadium wholly justified.
Once completed in May the Bowl will have a capacity of 3000 and act as the centrepiece for the Commonwealth Youth Games in September.
The controversy surrounding the funding of the stadium nearly stalled the developments, but a last minute agreement between the Government and Douglas Corporation meant work could go ahead.
The cost of the exercise is an estimated £2.9 million.
It was felt by some in the Corporation that such spending was inappropriate given the state of the economy.
Minister Cretney has said however that people should view it as an important investment in the future of the Isle of Man’s young generation.
