It's hoped potential disruption from weekend Birkenhead sailings being called off will be minimal.
That's according to Steam Packet Company Chief Executive, Mark Woodward, after it was announced crossings to and from the Wirral port on weekends this winter won't go ahead due to essential engineering works.
The fourteen timetabled weekend sailings will now go via Heysham - with a series of measures in place including an express coach service for foot passengers between Lancashire and Liverpool on those days.
Mr Woodward added some passengers have preferred the Heysham route due to its shorter crossing time, direct links to the M6 motorway and rail connections.
