The Ben my Chree will be taking part in berthing trials in Scotland this week.
CalMac is conducting the trials on its Arran route as it considers chartering the Steam Packet vessel.
She'll try berthing at Troon and Brodick as CalMac faces a difficult time with some of its vessels out of service and others undergoing maintenance.
CalMac's chief executive Duncan Mackison says a full charter would be subject to agreement from a number of parties.
