A banned driver with no insurance has been given a suspended prison sentence after almost causing a head-on crash on the Mountain Road.
Richard William Miller of Alder Road in Pulrose appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas Courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to one count each of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance in a black Mini at Hillberry on August 3 last year.
Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the hearing Miller had overtaken three vehicles when he was confronted by a car coming the other way - other motorists rang the police and Miller was stopped on Bowring Road in Ramsey a short time later.
The court heard he had a long history of motoring offences and hadn't retaken his test after serving a previous driving ban.
Mr Brooks jailed him for 26 weeks, suspended for two years, placed him on probation for two years and imposed a two-year driving ban - he also ordered the car be seized.
