James Tarron Keggin of Hawthorn Close appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse via a live videolink from the prison.
At an earlier hearing, he’d denied assaulting the 17 year old woman causing actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon said the 26 year old had been drinking whiskey for eight hours before the alleged attack at the couple’s home on North Shore Road in Ramsey on December 28.
She said the woman was thrown to the floor, grabbed by the neck, repeatedly punched in the head and had broken glass thrown at her when she fled to the bathroom.
The court heard she suffered a four-inch cut to her head and numerous other injuries that required hospital treatment.
Magistrates refused to grant bail and remanded Mr Keggin in custody until he appears at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on June 15.
