The Islands Infrastructure Minister says balancing the cost of delivering housing with the cost to tenants is 'a difficult one'
Ray Harmer MHK made the comments as it was announced this week public sector rents would go up by 1.9% from April 1 following consultations between his department and the Islands housing authorities.
Mr Harmer added the DOI's intention is to move to periodical rent setting over four to five years rather than on an annual basis and is working with local authorities to make it happen.
The upcoming increases mean costs for tenants will go up by between £1.19 and £2.01 a week depending on the size of the property.
