A community venue in Andreas has been given a new lease of life, after being refurbished with the support of local commissioners.
Popular for activities such as badminton, bowls and birthday parties, the parish hall was built in 1939 and is described as ‘integral’ for the village.
However, the site was plagued by dry rot and wet rot, and required substantial renovation, costing the local authority around £36,000.
Much of this was funded from the commissioners’ reserves, but a grant of £10,000 was also pledged by the Manx Lottery Trust.
It’s understood work has now been completed, with a number of clubs starting up again within the Hall.
John Quayle, the clerk of Andreas Parish Commissioners, says it’s welcome news for the community.
He’s also thanked the Manx Lottery Trust for the ‘generous’ grant, and says representatives will be invited to an official reopening in the coming months.
