The Department of Education, Sport and Culture says around 800 students went back to school yesterday.
The return is part of a phased return for children and young people to classrooms.
Teachers and school staff were allowed back to the classrooms on Monday, for the first time since schools closed on March 5.
In total, 448 pupils went back to primary school on Tuesday, while 347 students returned to secondary schools.
The government plans for all children and young people to be back in class from Monday, April 19 depending on advice from Public Health officials.
