Students in Ballakermeen High School Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) are being asked to stay at home due to staff shortages.
Due to Manx teachers and staff being stranded in various parts of the world there were concerns that schools wouldn't be able to fully re-open for the first day of school today.
The only school affected by this is Ballakermeen. Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils are being asked to stay at home today due to staff shortages. Over 17 staff from the school are not on the Island.
Apart from that, all other schools are open.
About 10% of the Islands teachers are currently stranded due to flight cancellations as a result of the volcanic ash.
A further announcement will be made later today about the school situation the rest of this week.
