Airport plans have been "rigorously scrutinised" says Minister

The Infrastructure Minister has said his department and the Treasury have rigorously scrutinised plans to update the baggage facilities at the airport.

Next week Tynwald will be asked to approve almost three million pounds for a new outbound carousel and x-ray machines.

In order to comply with EU law, and for the Isle of Man to retain its status as a domestic airport, Ronaldsway has to buy new machines which cost over £550,000.

According to the department this equipment cannot be installed without replacing the whole baggage system which will cost in excess of two million pounds.

Mr Cretney told 3FM that although he understands public concern over the amount of money being spent his department has no choice.
